The Trent Rawlings Slur: a watching brief

Boxer Trent Rawlings, picture from the Courier Mail.

Networker Cheryl apprised me of this story. Now Shakespeare said that a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Perhaps, when said with love and respect, names and nicknames and so on can be like that. But not when they are used to insult, take down, take the mick. Now Australians black and white are pretty good at this, although I am sure we are not the only nation to have this talent.

I am no proponent of political correctness, but the golden rule is not called golden for nothing. To treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated is good sense in anyone's language. In the sort of society we have to-day which is diverse, multi-cultural and trying its best to be inclusive, it is an imperative that our words and our actions reflect mutual respect.

This blog would like to keep a watching brief on this story so if any Networkers have further news or similar stories please be in touch. Email: misseaglesnetwork(at)gmail(dot)com.

This blog does not take Anonymous comments. Experience shows that comments cluttered with "Anonymous" are boring and people don't know whether "Anonymous" is one person or many. This is not a decision about freedom of speech. It is a decision about boring or unwillingness to be known by even a pseudonym.
