People doing it for themselves

Love Katheryn McCallum's piece in The Age this morning.  I love communities doing it for themselves.  That's how it should be.

There is one warning/proviso however.  There is a libertarian school of thought that thinks about the only thing governments should be responsible for is Defence - the Army, the Navy and the Air Force - and then only the core.  Everything gets contracted out - and probably shooting the bullets will be contracted next.

From what I can see, those with this view are never out doing it in the community either.  I reckon government/community balance is the way to go and this does not mean that the community side of the equation is the best or richest lobbyist.

This blog does not take Anonymous comments. Experience shows that comments cluttered with "Anonymous" are boring and people don't know whether "Anonymous" is one person or many. This is not a decision about freedom of speech. It is a decision about boring or unwillingness to be known by even a pseudonym.
