  1. I like the idea of Tony Burke as Minister for Sustainable Population, Communities, Environment and Water. I have been impressed by him.
    Did you notice what is missing?
    The much vaunted Minister for Regional Development position, offered to Robert Oakeshott, has evaporated.

  2. Denis, look more closely. Simon Crean - who has long been and continues to be a stalwart supporter of Gillard - has the job.

    I read into that that Crean is the one who is trusted to deputise for Gillard in dealing with the regional independents. Crean has some financial nous; is politically trustworthy; and is capable of dealing respectfully with the independents. As a Melbourne lad I'm not too sure what he knows about regional matters, but anyday now I plan to enter into correspondence with him.
