It's only words and words are all I have...Stephen Fry on language & fonts

From our beloved BeeGees:
It's only words ...
...and words are all I have to take your heart away.

These words, found in the classic BeeGees song Words, are at the heart of this blog. I can't make big donations to politicians or political parties; the body has to think twice before participating in a good ol' fashioned demo or trotting off to yet another meeting; and I'm not Oprah or a talk back radio host.  All I have to influence is the blog and its words...and words are all I have to influence, to coax, to take, dear Networkers, your hearts away.

  1. Very good. My first online community was the ebay community in 2003. This happened to me a lot. I used to type alot until they corrected me lol.

  2. Hello Linda,

I do believe in community and in the community being heard. Yesterday I attended the Melbourne Community Engagement event of the Murray Darling Basin Authority. I got into conversation with the man behind me who is a design engineer working on the design of a pipeline to go from Tasmania to Melbourne! In the conversation, he said to me what are your goals, what do you expect to get from this. I said community engagement and social benchmarking in govt decision-making would make me happy and, if it could be thrown in, a ban on political donations.

These days there are sophisticated tools for listening to communities and Australian govts are not using them. Govts are not listening to community knowledge and wisdom. As for social benchmarking, this would - if operating well - provide sound knowledge over time of our towns and cities so that, hopefully, we could faithfully measure the impact of govt decision-making (both its plus-es and its minus-es). People are not made to serve governments and their whims and wishes. Govts are there to serve us - and that begins with listening and knowledge.

    Blessings and bliss
    Brigid

This blog does not take Anonymous comments. Experience shows that comments cluttered with "Anonymous" are boring and people don't know whether "Anonymous" is one person or many. This is not a decision about freedom of speech. It is a decision about boring or unwillingness to be known by even a pseudonym.
