Brandishing Brandis knows no bounds. Now he is throwing his weight around in The Yartz!

This man probably holds these views honestly -
because he thinks he is the best arbitrator of our thoughts -
and our arts.

Miss Eagle is a former Queenslander.
She doesn't wish to return to the bad politics and racism that are still there.
And, of course, there is Brandis.

Miss Eagle has lived in Sydney and Melbourne
and knows how egocentric each can be -
as if the sun rises only in these two places.

It is nice to hear of good things happening in the arts in Brisbane -
but Brandis!
Brandis bullying The Yartz?!
Siphoning money off to spend on his pleasure at his leisure.
I know Brandis has been flaunting himself around
various Brisbane arts institutions for years -
but does his ego have to be inflicted on the rest of us?!

Dear Arts Colleagues and Friends,
As you will know by now, Federal Arts Minister George Brandis has taken $104.8 million off the Australia Council, over four years, to start a National Centre for Excellence run by his own office. This will decimate the Australia Council's discretionary budget, and has threatened the new programs and initiatives that started only this year.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
1. Please write to your local federal MP to tell them how poor this decision is, and how it threatens the fundamental democratic process of arts funding. It doesn't matter what political party they are from, they represent you and your interests.
> Click on: http://www.aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members/Members
> Put in your postcode, and it will give you the contact details for your local MP.
2. Get busy on social media: ‪#‎FreeTheArts‬
3. Sign the petition: http://australiansforartisticfreedom.org (this is still under construction at time of writing, so please check back at the end of the day to add your name).

Multicultural Arts Victoria coming this week and weekend to Ballarat - please join the fun and games. Poster below

From Anne Harkin at Multicultural Arts Victoria ~~~~

Hi Everybody,

I am contacting all the people who attended the MAV Community Consultation held in Ballarat in August last year.

At this consultation some of the ideas put forth were: to develop and promote cultural leaders and local artists. Also, people expressed that they wanted to be able to run cultural events and activities within the local community.

As a result, there will be two days of free workshops on Friday and Saturday of this week, comprising 4 x 2 hour workshops on those topics…with free lunch included.

Please check out the attached poster (See below for poster which can be downloaded) and ring or email Ekaterini Floratos, Project Coordinator, at community@multiculturalarts.com.au or 9188 3681 if you would like to attend.

Please pass this on to your friends and contacts who may be interested.

Thanks,
Anne Harkin

Multicultural Arts Victoria: bringing their Emerge Cultural Hubs Consultation 2012 to Ballarat

Dear Friends,
You are invited to attend a Ballarat Arts community consultation session with Multicultural Arts Victoria on Tuesday 28th August from 6pm – 8pm at the Ballarat Town Hall.

MAV will be seeking community feedback on the following:
1. What are the barriers to participation in the arts for refugee and emerging CALD artists and communities in Ballarat?
2. What can we do to increase opportunities and access for refugee and emerging CALD artists and communities in Ballarat?

Multicultural Arts Victoria will undertake a series of 6 consultations over a 2 week period in August to review and inform the development of its Emerge Cultural Hubs program. Emerge Cultural Hubs is a unique model for arts development, programming and capacity building of emerging refugee artists and communities in regional Victoria. Through a partnership approach and ongoing consultation with communities and stakeholders, the program identifies local needs and develops locally based, sustainable arts initiatives that are aimed at increasing refugee and CALD communities’ participation in the arts.

Elizabeth Hardiman | Cultural Partnerships Officer
