In NSW Councils have their own rules re...Good post.<br />In NSW Councils have their own rules re direct election of Mayors or the "take it in turns" thing yoyu describe. My Council has that system. It is a nonsense.<br />We have one Councillor with more than 2 quotas, and most just scrape in. But the one with the voters support is a woman (shock horror) and a Liberal.<br />The other also-ran Councillors gang up to deny her the position of Mayor.<br />Its a denial of natural justice, and democracy.<br />Re Sydney and Melbourne CBDs, the State Governemtns are scared of giving more power. Look at Frank Sartor (former Mayor of Sydney).
