It is simply inappropriate that an an Aboriginal school has to give up its land for this non-Indigenous school.

I think it's disgusting that the government is pitting these two disadvantaged schools against each other, when both should be given as much land and resources as they require.

I will note that supporters of GSS should really try to offer some sort of understanding for why Aboriginal people are upset with this latests land grab and attack on their school. There is 200+ years of cultural genocide at work, and this is just another part of that.

Also, it is obvious that if the whole school community was involved in the negotiations around this school, that there would not be this campaign not. The reality is that the Education Department only involved the segment of people around the school that were content to sign off on the proposal to lose their land. This happens quite often with negotiations around Aboriginal resources. The whole community has to be involved.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02275366030574816698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1052331249465415794.post-46948157991430056982010-12-18T21:19:50.177+11:002010-12-18T21:19:50.177+11:00Zoe your post contains a great deal of misinformat...Zoe your post contains a great deal of misinformation.

Ballerrt Mooroop College and Glenroy Specialist School are not being merged. They will be housed in the same street as neighbors but will be operated as totally different and independent organisations. GSS will have no impact whatsoever on the operational aspects of BMC. In fact BMC has made it quite clear they wish to have nothing to do with the students from GSS when approaches have been made by GSS to discuss the possibility of developing and sharing brand new recreational facilities. This is particularly sad as GSS was looking forward to having a good relationship with their neighbors and hoped to alleviate just a tiny amount of the isolationist attitude often displayed towards the severely disabled.
GSS can’t move to the old Glenroy Primary School site. That site simply is not large enough. It’s as simple as not enough square meters of space.
GSS can’t redevelop their current site. It does not belong to them or DEECD. It belongs to an entirely independent organisation that requires it for other purposes. Even if the current building could be purchased by the Victorian Government there would be nowhere to re-house 150 severely disabled and medically fragile children for the 12 months of the redevelopment.
BMC has been thoroughly involved in the planning of this site development for many years. Not liking the outcome of discussions is not the same as not being involved in them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
